Families in the parliamentary constituency of South East Cambridgeshire with infant school children are saving over £1 million a year thanks to the Liberal Democrats introducing free school meals, claims Jonathan Chatfield, their prospective parliamentary candidate.
There are around 3,000 children attending infant school in South East Cambridgeshire and it is estimated that for each child the average family is saving £400 a year in not having to buy school lunches or provide a packed lunch.
Jonathan who himself is the father of a young child said: “Top marks to the primary schools in South East Cambridgeshire for successfully introducing free school meals which are not only helping children with their education but also saving their parents and guardians money at this time of austerity.
“This has happened because there are Liberal Democrats in government. Both the Conservatives and Labour mocked the idea which was championed by Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Democrats.
“Liberal Democrats will extend this to all primary school children if we form the government after the general election next year.”
